announces an


INTERNATIONAL
MARIMBA CONCERTO COMPETITION


Ljubljana, Slovenia, June 10-16,  2005



This is the worldwide first EVER international competition for marimba concertos and is open to performers of all nations that are born on or after January 1st 1970.  The competition emphasizes marimba concertos, and consists of three rounds.  First (preliminary) round requires a submission of the UNEDITED CD with LIVE recording of the required pieces.   After listening the sent recordings, jury will invite maximum 30 selected participants for the second round, that will take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia as of June 10th, 2005.



REQUESTED PROGRAM


FIRST (PRELIMINARY) ROUND 
For this first round candidates must submit unedited recordings (on CD), of the pieces as listed below 
(Deadline Postal stamp: January 15th 2005)
 


1st Recording: ONE of the following pieces:

2nd Recording:  The Cadenza from:


Keiko Abe, PRISM RHAPSODY  FOR MARIMBA and ORCHESTRA (Xebec, Japan)
(from rehearsal number 20 to 21)



 


3rd Recording: The Cadenza  from:


Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic, MARIMBA CONCERTO no.2 op.25  (Ed. Musica Europea, Germany)


(3rd movement, from rehearsal number 73 to 74)



 


SECOND  ROUND


The Candidates that pass to this round  will be informed and may come to Slovenia.
The 2nd round will take place in Ljubljana and will be performed with  piano accompaniment.

2.) SET PIECE no.2:


Darius Milhaud, Concerto pour Marimba et Orchestre (Enoch, France)



   (First movement only)

c) Richard Rodney Bennett             Concerto for Marimba and chamber orchestra (Novello, UK)



 


THIRD ROUND (FINAL ROUND)

JURY MEMBERS:


 


Committee will consist of three international marimba artists, and two distinguished members of the RTV Slovenia.

PRIZES:


 


This competition will have 1st and 2nd prize only.



 


First Prize will be:



  • 1000 Euros

  • Public concert with the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra on June 16, 2005
    with radio and TV broadcast. The piece will be "Prism Rhapsody" by Keiko Abe.


  • Studio recording of this work for RTV- Archive and European Broadcasting Union  with the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra on June 17th.

  • Reimbursement of travel and lodging expenses


Second Prize will be:



  • 500 Euros

  • Public concert with the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra on June 16, 2005
    with radio and TV broadcast.
    The piece will be "Concertino" by Slavko Suklar.


  • Studio recording of this work for RTV- Archive and European Broadcasting Union  with the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra on June 17th.


  • Reimbursement of travel and lodging expenses




APPLICATION DETAILS:            


All applicants must send:
1. Five unedited CD?s WITH NO WRITTEN TEXT ON THEM, i.e. no applicants names or the like. The CD?s,  must be anonymous!



2. A separate sheet with applicants? biography, full name and address, e-mail and photograph
